The Shoreline Theatre Festival isn’t just a weekend of shows—it’s about bringing people together through the power of live performance. It’s a space for creativity, connection, and making theater a more vibrant, accessible part of Muskegon’s cultural life.

Our misson
“The Shoreline Theatre Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the public understanding of the performing arts. Our vision is to increase access to educational resources, enrich the cultural life of Muskegon County, and create a sustainable platform for community theaters to collaborate, engage with local residents, and inspire lifelong appreciation for the performing arts. We aim to foster a supportive environment where individuals of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to participate in a range of theatrical workshops and productions. These experiences will be to educate and enhance the cultural impact of the performing arts in our community.”
Why Now? Why This Matters.
Muskegon has a rich and growing arts scene, yet many local theaters face challenges in reaching new audiences, securing funding, and sustaining their work long-term. We’re here to change that.
By uniting Muskegon’s theater companies under one festival, we create something bigger than any single production—a platform for connection, collaboration, and lasting impact. This isn’t just about a weekend of performances; it’s about building a stronger, more visible theater community that thrives all year long.
A Vision for the Future
We are starting small, but thinking big. This festival is designed to grow into a citywide celebration of the performing arts, modeled after Fringe Festivals around the world—where every corner of the city becomes a stage, and creativity takes center stage in unexpected places.
In the future, we envision the Shoreline Theatre Festival sprawling across Muskegon, transforming not just traditional theaters, but coffee shops, storefronts, parks, and public spaces into immersive performance venues. Attendees might see a Shakespearean soliloquy in a bookstore, a contemporary dance piece in a brewery, or an improv troupe performing in the middle of a public square.
This festival isn’t just about large productions—it’s about giving all forms of live performance a space to shine. From established companies to independent artists, we want to open doors to experimental, interactive, and boundary-pushing performances that showcase the full diversity of the performing arts.
But this is more than just an exciting festival model—it’s an opportunity for growth on multiple levels.
How This Benefits Our Community Long-Term
• For Local Theaters: More visibility means more audiences. More audiences mean stronger productions, increased sustainability, and the ability to take creative risks. This festival is designed to support, uplift, and amplify the work of local theaters—not just for one weekend, but for the long haul.
• For Performers: The festival provides a stage for current actors and artists to shine while also inspiring the next generation of performers. By offering workshops, exposure, and opportunities to connect, we aim to nurture talent and make Muskegon a place where artists want to stay and grow.
• For Muskegon’s Cultural Landscape: A strong theater scene creates a ripple effect, attracting new audiences, fostering community pride, and solidifying Muskegon as a hub for the performing arts. As the festival grows, we will expand our ability to invest back into the community—fueling future projects, funding new artistic endeavors, and ensuring Muskegon’s performing arts scene continues to flourish.
This isn’t just about putting on a show—it’s about creating a sustainable future for Muskegon’s performing arts. As our festival grows, so does its impact.
The Heart Behind It
